Peacemaker

Do you know those people that walk into a room and immediately create disagreement? They’re the kind of people who seem bent on adding fuel to existing fires, focusing on the negative in life, and making sure you know all their opinions on every topic. No one likes to be around those people because they constantly create an atmosphere of discord around them. I have a confession: there are times when I can be that person. In fact, there are times when we all fall into the trap of being THAT person.

There are so many problems surrounding our society today. However, one of the biggest issues we may face is that we do not have enough peacemakers. Instead, we have a lot of debaters. We can get so caught up in being right that we sacrifice being at peace. We can get so fixated on our side of the story that we lose sight of the big picture. At the end of the day, I don’t want to be remembered as someone who was right most of the time. I want to be remembered as someone who brought peace most of the time. In an age when anxiety is on the rise, we need more peacemakers.

Peacemakers focus on commonalities instead of differences.

Peacemakers keep their emotions in check and do not allow their feelings to dictate their thoughts, words, or actions.

Peacemakers walk into a room and think about what they can contribute, not about what they can take.

Peacemakers affirm and encourage others.

Peacemakers look for the good in people.

Peacemakers strive for unity.

Imagine a world of peacemakers. It can start with you!

Matthew 5:9

“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.”
